Augmentin is a combination of two medicines called amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium. Amoxicillin is an antibiotic medicine. It kills anaerobic bacteria. Clavulanic acid is a medicine that belongs to a group of medicines called beta-lactamase inhibitors. This medicine will not kill anaerobic bacteria, but can prevent them from becoming resistant to amoxicillin.
Augmentin is used to treat a wide range of infections caused by bacteria. Augmentin is also used to treat certain types of pneumonia.

There is no evidence that Augmentin is addictive.
